History of KalayatKalayat was carved out in Kaithal district on November 1, 1989 from the districts of Kaithal and Jind. Brick Temples present here were built during 7th-8th century representing the rich and ancient history of Kalayat. The rich hsitory of the region is evident from the fact that many Afghan rulers and Pathans often made iunroads into the plains of India through region surrounding Kalayat. The area also saw the notable rulers like Changiz Khan on its soil. India's first woman ruler, Razia Sultana also had her last breath in Kalayat.Bhai Gubhaks Singh, a Sikh ruler founded Kalayat and thereafter he ruled from 1763 B.C. to 1843 B.C. However, Bhai Lal Singh, his successor handed over Kalayat to the British. You can still see many monument built by these Sikh rulers in Kalayat. The letters written by them which are in Pharsi language are also preserved safely in the museum at Patiala. The‘freedom struggle’ in 1857 also saw participation from Kalayat.
